ABOUT
Impending extinction comes to a tipping point for one of the world’s most studied species: the Southern Resident killer whales. For two young filmmakers, this crisis sparks a journey across the Pacific Northwest, joining activists, scientists and Indigenous leaders to uncover corruption and stop injustices before it’s too late.
If we can save the orca,
we can save the coast, and ourselves.
SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, NOW
We met on Saturna Island, British Columbia. We'd both travelled across the continent to learn about killer whales, the ocean's apex predator. But it wasn't long before we were met by a dark reality: life is rapidly disappearing from this coast.
Today, the world's most iconic orcas, the Southern Residents — known from Free Willy and Blackfish — are on the brink of extinction. And together we decided to find out why.
